    I made my sister a book (got it printed at Snapfish) with photos of her (and her husband too) as a baby, then growing up, and then while pregnant - and letters from family to the future little one. It was really special and cost about $25.00. She still cries when she talks about it.

    I made my sister a diaper cake, with shampoo, wash rags, rubber ducks, a bottle of pedilate (sp) in the middle. She really loved it and it helped her because it was made of 42 size 1 diapers that she could use.

    Get the mom a gift certificate to the spa. She shouldn’t be left out either! I would LOVE to get a spa gift card at my shower.

    Someone got us a "sleepy sheep" - a stuffed sheep that plays white noise. It comes with a loop for hanging near a crib or carseat. It was very useful for calming baby in the first few months, and more original than just another stuffed animal or pink outfit.

    I would check the registry first, if she has one. It might be better to get her something she really wants/needs rather than something unique. If it looks like a lot of things are already bought off the list then I would say definitely go for something original.

    You know what is really cute - The hand and footprint albums. babies grow so fast it is often hard to remember how small they were so this is a keepsake and unique.
